How We Test KittyUI on HyperOS

I test a theme by installing it on my own phone and using it as my daily lockscreen and system theme. For KittyUI v4, that phone was a Redmi Note 14 5G Global on HyperOS 3.0, and I kept the theme on for about a month. If a sentence says tested by me, I did it on this phone. If I did not do it, the page says so.

There is no lab, no second handset, and no benchmark suite behind these pages. The value of the notes is that they name the phone, the software, the taps, and the misses. A result from a different Redmi, a POCO, or another HyperOS build is a different test, and I will not borrow it and call it mine.

The phone and the software

  • Device: Redmi Note 14 5G Global
  • Software: HyperOS 3.0
  • Theme: KittyUI v4 by NVX Boss
  • Source I actually used: the official Xiaomi Theme Store, opened in the Themes app
  • Time on the theme: about a month of daily use
  • Root: not used
  • Computer: not used

The version I am standing behind is HyperOS 3.0 on that Global Note 14 5G. If you write to me about a mismatch, include your HyperOS version so I can see whether we are on the same software.

What the labels mean

The guides use a small set of labels. They are there so a reader can see the difference between my phone and someone else's report.

  • Tested by me — I did this on the Redmi Note 14 5G Global during the KittyUI v4 test.
  • Not tested by me — I did not do this. The line may exist so you know the limit, or because readers described it.
  • App guidance — the steps come from a tool's own site. For the MTZ Installer fallback, that source is mtzinstaller.com. I did not run those steps.

If a label and a paragraph disagree, the label wins. Email me the URL and I will fix the paragraph. Corrections are logged on the corrections page.

What I checked on KittyUI v4

These are the checks behind the review and the install guide:

  • Opening the theme from the official store link and choosing the Themes app, including the case where the button opened an ordinary browser and I copied the link into MI Browser
  • Download and Apply inside the Themes app
  • One restart after applying, which cleared overlapping UI on my phone
  • Entering CAT17 under Themes app → Profile → Lock Style → Customize → Password
  • The iOS-style lockscreen after that password, including the charging animation
  • Toggling the battery, health, and clock widgets without the Themes app crashing
  • The Dynamic Island-style widget on the lockscreen: music controls expanded, incoming calls animated, and charging status appeared. During daily use I did not see noticeable lag. That was not a timed benchmark
  • Icon shape and animation. I did not audit coverage app by app
  • The control center opened from the top right, with themed toggles, brightness, volume, and shortcuts, after CAT17
  • The stock Xiaomi dialer, plus the Wi-Fi and battery icons in the status bar
  • Depth-effect wallpapers. A later Theme Store update flattened the effect, and turning Depth of field effect off and on restored it
  • The lockscreen notification area, which sometimes stayed in the stock HyperOS style until I locked and unlocked the phone. I do not know the cause

CAT17 did not unlock every feature at once. On my phone, depth-effect wallpapers and some widgets showed up over the following days or after theme updates. The theme page did not explain that schedule. I am reporting the timing I saw, not a rule Xiaomi published.

I looked for a home screen version of the Dynamic Island-style widget and did not find one. On my phone it lived on the lockscreen.

What I did not test

These items are outside the test. A guide should not sound sure about them.

  • Battery use, heat, or speed compared with the default theme. I did not run that comparison, so I am not publishing a battery result
  • A scheduled reboot test. I restarted after installing, and I lived with the theme for about a month. I did not reboot on a timer to count which widgets survived
  • Icon coverage across third-party apps
  • Any other Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO model
  • Any HyperOS or MIUI version other than HyperOS 3.0 on this phone
  • Custom ROMs, including Xiaomi.eu
  • The MTZ Installer app, Accessibility access, and importing a .mtz file
  • A confirmed before-and-after removal. The install guide lists the path back to the Default theme. I have not published a measured removal test, so treat those steps as a path to try until the guide says I confirmed them on this phone
  • A fix for a missing Apply button, or for a Themes app that never appears in the app picker. I do not have a tested fix for either one

How I use reports from other people

Readers describe other phones. I keep those notes only when they add a limit I should not hide, and I label them as reader reports. I do not upgrade a reader report into my result because several people said the same thing. The upgrade happens when I can repeat the step on the Note 14 5G, or when I add another phone I actually use and say so.

A useful report includes the model, Global or not, the HyperOS version, what you expected, and what happened. A screenshot helps. Your email is not published. The contact page has the address and the list of things I cannot do, including remote access.

The store method and the MTZ fallback

The method I tested is the official Theme Store. It did not need root. It used Xiaomi's Themes app. That is the route I point people to.

The install guide also describes an MTZ Installer fallback for people who only have a .mtz file. I did not test it. The steps in that section are app guidance from mtzinstaller.com and community reports. The app asks for Accessibility access, battery exemptions, and restricted settings. An app with Accessibility access can read the screen and perform taps. I did not grant that to install KittyUI v4, and I do not treat that route as the normal one.

This site does not host the .mtz. If you leave the Theme Store, you are trusting whoever uploaded the file. I cannot check a file I have not installed.

What a Theme Store update changed

During the month of use, a Theme Store update stopped the depth-effect wallpaper. The picture went flat. Turning Depth of field effect off and then on, in the lockscreen settings, brought the depth back. I am not claiming every update will do this. I am claiming this one did, on this phone, and that the toggle fixed it for me.

When I see another change on this phone, the article gets a dated line in its update history and a new date under the title. I do not rewrite history to match a newer build without saying the date changed.

What would change a verdict

I would change the written result if any of these happened on a phone I control:

  • I can repeat a failure that removes a feature I currently describe as working
  • A Theme Store update changes the lockscreen, the password path, or the control center, and I have seen the new behavior myself
  • I test a second device and the page names that device separately from the Note 14 5G
  • I confirm removal back to Default, and the install guide is updated to say the test happened

Questions people ask

How do you test KittyUI?

I install it from the Xiaomi Theme Store on my own phone and use it every day. The KittyUI v4 test was a Redmi Note 14 5G Global on HyperOS 3.0 for about a month.

Did you test more than one phone?

No. One phone. Other models stay off the tested-by-me list until I use them myself.

Did you test battery life?

No. I did not measure battery, heat, or performance against the default theme, so the guides do not include a battery claim.

Did you test the MTZ Installer?

No. That section is labeled as app guidance and as not tested by me. The method I tested is the official Theme Store.

What does CAT17 change in the test?

Before CAT17, my phone showed the basic cat wallpaper. After I entered it in the Themes app lock-style password field, the themed lockscreen, widgets, and control center appeared. It still did not unlock every feature on the first day.
